Oil Filled & Propane Heaters Discussed

November 30th, 2009

Propane Space Heaters

Propane space heaters are relatively environmentally friendly and produce fewer pollutants than oil fuelled heaters. Some claim to be 99.9% efficient.

Although they don’t require electricity to heat, some units have blowers that require they be plugged into an outlet, to force the heat throughout the room. Whether or not you need a blower really depends on your use, if you are trying to heat up a whole house you may want to consider this added feature.

Some units use electric starters to turn them on, by electric spark that ignites the flame with a push of a button. Build in thermostats and carbon monoxide detectors are usually in these models too. A really good safety feature incorporated into some units is a low oxygen detector, which will automatically shut down if levels get too low.

One important fact to know is that when using propane heaters, make sure any enclosed space are replenishing the oxygen supply as propane uses oxygen to burn.

Portable Propane Heaters

Portable propane heaters are generally small and lightweight and are designed for heating during outdoor activities such as hunting, boating, fishing, or even emergency heat.

Being self contained with own supply of gas, a propane portable heater can be taken anywhere outdoor. It is not necessary to hook them onto any source of gas or electricity. Most of the propane gas heaters have adjustable heat control so that your comfort level can be optimized and are also weather resistant so you can store them for a long time and they would not be rusted.

Oil Filled Heaters

An oil filled radiator heater, like an electric space heater, is ideal when your central heating system isn’t sufficient. These heaters utilize special heat-conserving oil that’s sealed inside the coils of the radiator. These heaters are very efficient to operate as you will never need to replace the oil inside them. Having the proper size heater for your room is important as you will be able to conserve the energy used. Choose a heater with a timer or one that is thermostatically controlled as these heaters can avoid the energy waste of overheating a room.
