Lighting Arrangements For Your Home

October 10th, 2009

Lighting arrangements in a home needs careful planning. Lighting should not be too bright or too dim. If there is improper lighting, you will feel uncomfortable while working. So opt for safe and pleasant lighting to enhance beauty of the room and your home as well. Here are useful tips for the choice of lighting.

The two main light sources that are used in homes are: Incandescent and florescent lights. Light bulbs are an example of incandescent lights and are yellow in color. They are also not a good choice when it comes to saving energy where as florescent lights includes tubes.

Florescent lights are more popular than incandescent lights as they are energy efficient and the light produced by these sources is shadow free and white light which is more soothing and comfortable for the eyes. You can also install dimmer switches which will allow you to control the intensity of light.

Reading areas must be well lit. Give special importance to the placements of reading lights, like reading lamps should always be placed at the height of the shoulder. It should be such that the light should be shadow free and you are able to work comfortably. Ion-max lamps are popularly used as reading lamps as they produce white natural light which is soothing for the eyes.

Every room in your house requires proper lighting and kitchen is one the most important places so it must be well lit. Earlier ceiling lights were a popular choice for kitchen but now days there are several new types of lighting for kitchen. Like, lighting over the counter tops, sinks and cabinets. There is task lighting available which is used to light up a particular area.

Different types of lighting such as task lighting, general lighting and accent lighting are used in living room. Task lighting is used for reading whereas general lighting is used for watching television. Accent lighting is used to focus on any artwork or decorative pieces.

Use chandeliers, candles, colorful silk lanterns and ambient lighting in dining room as they look good when they are enlightened. These lightings make the room aesthetically attractive and give tranquil effects in dining room.

Right lighting arrangements is equally important for a bedroom. The lighting arrangements should be such that it creates a warm and a cozy feel where you can relax. You can place lamps on both sides of the bed for a romantic feel. You can even use chandeliers. Up lights and hanging lights is also a popular choice for bedrooms.

What You Should Know About The Best Camping Generator

October 07th, 2009

Looking for a camping generator can be hard if you don’t know what you are really looking for. With so many options of generators out there how do you really know what you should be looking for. With camping and camping for extended periods of time for example on a RV it’s important to have a generator at bay to make sure that your computer, your laptop and the all important coffee maker are supported. What I recommend is that you pick up a bigger brand camping generator.

A 2000 watt Honda generator is a good choice because it runs quite and there really no reason for it take up to much of your figuring it out. In addition to running really quiet it can power almost about whatever you throw it’s way.It doesn’t take a lot of gas and can run for a long time. Typically it can run a 2-3 person operation for a R.V. or and type of outdoor use. One thing I’d do is add a inverter this way you can charge anything from batteries for your R.V. or extra car and power boat.

The two types of alternators are the standard and the inverter. Standard alternators are made up of heavy copper coils that generate AC electricity. With a rotation speed of 3,600 rpm’s a camping generator can get very noisy quickly, why this happens it is need to generate enough rotation speed to produce power. Naturally, this type of generator can consume large amounts of fuel. It’s important to know that standard alternators are really not the best for electronics since they don’t produce enough clean energy like a power plug at home.

Inverter generators, on the other hand, produce DC electricity which is then converted to clean AC power at the output connections. Inverter generators are alot lighter and are very portable. The engine can run at different speeds depending on the load and that reduces both the noise and the fuel consumption.

Another major innovation in some inverter generators is a full GFCI [ground-fault circuit interrupter] sensor now available on some makes and models. This system monitors and protects against ground faults on all outlets, not just the 120V duplex outlets like on most generators. This system is also more durable and reliable than standard GFCI outlets, which are known as high-maintenance items.

Getting the best portable generator is not an easy decision.Whatever, the choice you make you’ll come to love your new generator! The beauty of the generator is that come in handy in whatever situation you might be in from emergencies to extreme outdoor camping. There a great thing to have in your box of tools and will come in handy when you least expect it.

Expand Your Entertaining With A Cheese Board

October 04th, 2009

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most elegant. This is certainly true with a cheese plate. While requiring a great deal of thought a cheese platter does not require all that much time. It is time for you to try this simple idea.

A cheese plate in more than just a tray of cheese. It should be chosen carefully and made in such a way that your guest have their appetites whetted. A cheese board can be served as almost any course of the meal, appetizer, main course or even desert. Take the following into consideration as you prepare the platter.

When selecting cheese, do not choose more than half a dozen different cheeses. Select cheeses that are of different textures, appearances and tastes. You can plan your cheese board according to a theme, such as a country, different milks or even the seasons. The tastes on the plate should vary from mild to strong so that your guests can begin with the mildest and move up to the strongest. Make the cheese platter visually appealing by using different colors, shapes and sizes of cheese. Fresh fruit can be used to add a color splash.

You may want to accompany the cheese board with wine or bread. They should complement the cheeses selected. Make sure that the flavor of the wine or bread are not so overpowering that they compete with the flavor of the cheeses. Everything that you choose should allow the guest to appreciate that the cheese plate has diversity. Fruit or nuts can be added to the board. They add subtle flavors that enhance the cheese.

When you present the cheese platter, be sure that there are different knives for each type of cheese. You do not want flavors to be mixed. Use a wide flat knife for soft spreadable cheeses and a very sharp knife for the hard cheeses.

Be sure that you leave enough space between the cheeses so that they do not mix. This is very important when serving the soft cheeses. Cheeses that have a strong smell should be place far from those with a mild smell. Put the smaller cheeses in the center of the plate and surround them with the softer cheeses. The hardest cheeses need to be around the edges of the platter so they are easily cut.

Since most cheeses have the best flavor and texture when brought to room temperature, be sure that you set them out at least one hour before you plan to serve them. Plan on a longer time for hard cheeses but be careful that softer cheesed do not become too soft. When bringing to room temperature, keep all cheeses covered so they do not dry out. The wraps should not be removed until you are ready to serve the cheeses.

While the cheese platter is easily prepared, it offers a touch of elegance to any meal. As the host, it gives you both an artistic and a creative challenge. It offers a taste treat to your guests. Be sure to add a cheese board to your next evening party.

Search Engine Optimisation – Methods Compared

October 02nd, 2009

Search Engine Optimisation is an ever changing discipline. It works to maximise a website’s ratings on the ‘natural’ search lists on major Search Engines. Natural or ‘organic’ lists form the main body of a SE page. These do not include the paid listings. The PPC (paid) entries tend to feature at the top and right side of the page. Whilst the other free ads have been listed by the SE’s. The order of each site is determined by its ‘importance’ and relevance to the keyword.

Plainly our aim is to get our site up with the top ones. We’re unlikely to get noticed if we’re number 8 on the tenth page! Only those in the Search Engine’s ‘inner circle’ know all the factors used to position sites. It’s not in the SE’s interest to tell people everything they do.

But there is now a skilled sector entirely devoted to benefiting from high rankings. On the Search Engine side you have upgraded technological patents being regularly filed. (To cause as much uncertainty as possible!) And to rival that, we have a large Search Engine Optimisation sector. Optimisation specialists test, quantify and evaluate a myriad of indicators that affect a site’s ratings.

Search Engine Optimisation deals with both on-page and off-page issues. In addition there are geographic and demographic factors, but SEO cannot control these. (Off-Page optimisation is examined in an additional feature.)

‘On-Page’ SEO

If we can make changes to our site to make it more friendly to Search Engines, this is called ‘on-page’ optimisation. This is quite straight-forward – it simply requires correctly setting up your site. It involves such factors as – Using internal links, keywords, header tags and meta tags.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand the technical terms. The bottom-line is, that while it is the easiest to control, it has the LEAST affect on your ranking. To be blunt, some would say it hardly has any effect at all. Search Engines used to credit on page factors in the past. Not any longer though.

If, however, off-page has been optimised, (and there are many inbound back-links), then on-page continues to be important. At that stage, Internal Linking and some On Page manipulation can be beneficial.

Some Words Of Caution… A phrase that shows vast numbers of results should not be your first SEO target. For instance, if you typed into a Search Engine the term Car insurance, seventy million results would be listed for the UK alone. It’s fairly obvious that seventy million competitors is a few too many for someone just getting started.

On the other hand… The phrase ‘Southampton Car Insurance’ only brings in three hundred thousand. (Assuming I was a car insurance provider in Southampton.) This still seems quite a large amount, but it’s actually not in search terms.

I could expect to get ranked far more easily for the longer phrase. In reality, getting ranked for car insurance would cost a fortune! I’d actually be head to head with the really big boys. So not a great idea – especially, in fact, when there are much better ways to go about it.

We should concentrate on more accurate ‘phrases’ that give us less competition. They’re known as long tail searches, because they’ll have several keywords. It depends on your competition, but long-tail searches can be up to 6 or 7 words. Usually, a long-tail phrase is three or four words.

It’s sensible to start SEO work on terms that yield under half a million returns. (If the sites on the front page haven’t used SEO techniques, then we might go with bigger yields). Over time we’ll gain ground on the larger search terms. This will happen automatically through building back links. We can go for some of those after several months if we’ve SEO’d well. A line of attack like this makes business sense. Basically we zone in on people who are specifically searching to purchase.

Don’t just limit building back links to your website’s home page – link them up to various sub pages as well. The Search Engines like this – especially Google. Category pages for instance are good to back-link. They very frequently link up to a range of sub-pages, so driving appropriate terms to them can be very worthwhile. Thus – don’t restrict the back links to just one page. The managing and listing of individual sub-pages is receiving growing attention from the major Search Engines.

Product Review Of The Panasonic EP-30004 Massage Chair Recliner

September 29th, 2009

This review will take a look at one of the Panasonic Real Pro Ultra series of massage chairs. The Real Pro Ultra is the current massage recliner series rolled out by Panasonic. We will look at the EP 30004 model. This chair will be reviewed in 5 key categories. Each category can earn up to 20 points for a total possible score of 100 points. We will evaluate the recliner in each of the following categories: Warranty & Customer Service, Comfort/Ergonomics, Ease of Use, Features and Massage Therapy. Let us see how this massage chair rates..

Warranty & Customer Service: In any transaction one party takes on more risk than the other. Warranty coverage helps to reduce your risk which is especially important on higher ticket items like a massage chair. You want to have long term protection. The EP-30004 is covered with 3 years on the parts and 1 year labor. This is the warranty offered by the manufacturer. It is rather short in comparison to the other top brands, so you really want to consider purchasing an extended warranty. Of course, this also drives the cost of this model up. Customer service is provided by the retailer, so this varies depending on your purchase the chair.

Comfort & Ergonomics: Ergonomics was a hot topic about 10 years ago when everyone started jumping on the bandwagon. However, surprisingly many manufacturers do not pay close attention to this area. The EP-30004 does follow ergonomics very well. It has a detachable head pillow that can easily be adjusted for each user. The armrests come with sufficient padding to support the arms in comfort. The chair back and the seat support the body well and are form fitting. The leg rest can be adjusted an additional five inches. This is really important to fit individual users. Overall we rate this chair an 18 for ergonomics.

East of Use: The massage chair industry increases the functionality of its chairs every year. With the increase in functionality comes increasing complexity of controls to run them. Our ease of use category is for making the controls of the chair as intuitive as possible for the user. Panasonic is one of the premier electronics companies in the world, so we expect them to completely understand this issue. Panasonic has pioneered the use of a ?Voice Guidance? system in their chairs to help consumers with ease of use. This interactive system enables novice users to quickly understand and use the chair to maximum benefit. The remote is very cleanly designed and intuitive. It is not cluttered like many controllers we evaluate. The remote comes with memory functions that can remember the favorite massages of up to 4 different users. Manual controls are located in the side panel of the remote. Overall Rating for the Panasonic EP 30004 for ease of use is 19.

Key Features: There are two important features we want to point out with this chair. The Junetsu massage technique and the shoulder stretch. The Junetsu massage is an ultra fine kneading massage. It is based on how a professional massage therapist loosens up tight muscles. There is a one second thumb like pressure applied with a spiral circular motion. This has the affect of reverberating down through the muscles to the bone. It is very thorough and invigorating. The other key feature to point out is the shoulder stretch. This unique feature is accomplished by activating the air bag in the arm rest to firmly hold the arm. The chair back then reclines to stretch out the arm and shoulder. This is excellent for increasing the mobility and flexibility of the shoulder area. We give the Real Pro Ultra a 19 for its new features.

Massage Therapy: This massage chair comes with five automatic courses. It includes a Body Scan which is also customizable. Ultra-fine kneading or Junetsu has been introduced to the full complement of Quad-style massage techniques, including Shiatsu, Swedish, fist kneading, and grasping. Between the automatic and the manual functions there are up to 372 combinations of techniques available in this recliner. There are reflexology pads built into the foot wells that pinpoint areas that will instantly increase blood flow and energy throughout your body. These plates are adjustable and removable. You also have both a lower body stretch and the shoulder stretch. This chair has a virtual arsenal of massage techniques to cater to your every need. We score the massage therapy of this chair a 19.

We score the overall rating of the EP 30004 as a 90/100. This Real Pro Ultra series lounger is a solid and well built massage recliner. It has some new and innovative features such as the shoulder stretch and the Junetsu massage. It provides comprehensive and thorough full body massage capability. We have to say we are still disappointed with Panasonic’s lack of design aesthetics. The chair just has a very industrial look which unfortunately continues to be their trademark look. The warranty is a bit light and an extended warranty should be considered for adequate protection. This is definitely one of the best massage chairs in its class and if you are looking for one, then check this one out.
